The mission of OUMC’s AfterSchool Ministry is to provide a safe and nurturing Christian environment for elementary school-aged children. Our goal is to provide a quality program of childcare for grades K – 5. The AfterSchool Ministry is focused on the needs of all children and aims for inclusiveness. Ethnic minority families, single parent families and low income families are encouraged to apply. Need based scholarships are available.

Daily Activities
The AfterSchool program takes place in “The Hut,” a comfortably equipped log cabin located at the south end of the OUMC parking lot. Shortly after the children arrive from school, we gather for a short Blessing and Sharing time. Then the children have their snack. Quiet Time takes place from 3:30 – 4:30 pm., Monday - Thursday. The children use this hour to work on their homework and reading assignments.

After Quiet Time, we enjoy a wide variety of activities including art, sports, science, playground, computer time, hiking, games and free play. Fun with Faith Club takes place twice monthly. We go to the Chapel Hill Public Library for children’s literature programs. We take field trips to local museums, parks, farms, hiking trails and other places of interest to children. Speakers and performers are invited regularly to the AfterSchool to share their expertise. Piano lessons, guitar lessons, Yoga for Children, Tumbling and Cheerleading are offered on site for additional fees, given sufficient interest.

Days and Hours of Operation
The AfterSchool Ministry follows the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School District calendar. This includes holidays, breaks, teacher workdays and other school closures. The AfterSchool operates from 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Full day care or “Day Camp” for teacher workdays is offered at an additional fee. We do not offer part-time after school care.

Transportation and Pickup
OUMC provides bus transportation from Seawell and Estes Hills Elementary Schools. Parents may pick up their children any time before 6pm and are required to sign them out daily.

Tuition and Fees
Tuition for the 2007-2008 academic year is $190 per month. The initial application fee is $15 and is non-refundable. The first tuition payment reserves your child's space in the program. A one-time $40 supply fee is due at the beginning of a child’s enrollment. This covers basic materials such as paper and pencils, plus an AfterSchool T-shirt. We have a capacity of 28 children and do maintain a waiting list.
