The Cornerstone adult Sunday school class is an intergenerational class that enjoys fun, fellowship and a real thirst for Bible study together.
The class has primarily focused on Bible study, delving into a variety of both Old Testament and New Testament books. It has also done some topical studies (the Parables) or character studies of great Biblical figures (Ruth and Joseph, to name a couple), and even engaged in in-depth studies of prayer and personal evangelism during the last couple of years. One of the real key features of the class, though, has been the willingness of its members to share in discussion, creating a real sense of community.
The class meets on Sundays after the contemporary service, going from 10 o’clock to about 10:40 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The class gathers in the fellowship hall, behind the whiteboard/partition, after adult Sunday school opening. In fact, it actually has derived its name from meeting in one corner of the fellowship hall— get it? Cornerstone? The Cornerstone Sunday School Class has, as its theme Bible verses, Ephesians 2:19-20: “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the prophets and apostles, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.”
After class announcements we always take time to share prayer joys and concerns, which has become an important part of what we do. We distribute index cards each Sunday so people may, if they wish, write down the concerns and pray about them during the week.
A weekly “email epistle” will be sent to any member of the class who wishes to get it, with information about the class, what we’re be studying, additional prayer joys and concerns, and a “thought for the week.” People who used to be in the class but have moved away have in some cases elected to stay in touch with OUMC through these “epistles,” which are usually sent on Tuesdays.
Attendance may vary from between 20 to 40. Several Cornerstone members are also currently teaching other children’s Sunday school classes. The hope, though, is that each Sunday the lesson can “stand on its own” so if folks are away or drop in to visit, what is discussed still makes some sense without having heard other week’s information.
We would invite anybody interested in a special Sunday school community to join us!
